In one of the previous stories I described how you can connect iCloud calendar to Alexa. Are you a Google user? Then Google Calendar could your primary choice. Alexa supports Google Calendar and it’s quite easy to make the link.

Prerequisites

To connect Google Calendar to Alexa you need the latest version of the Alexa app. Unlike the iCloud calendar, with Google calendar you don’t need app-specific password, though have your Google account password at hand. Also, if you have 2FA enabled (and you should), you will need to confirm login.

Let’s start

Open the Alexa app and go to Settings. Scroll down and find the Calendars item. Tap the Add Account with a + icon. Follow the instructions. For your convenience, all steps are displayed in the follwoing screenshot.

You need to sign-in to your Google account and give Alexa permission to access your calendar.

After doing so, you will need to select which calendars to sync with Alexa. Please note that certain calendars are read-only, for example, holiday calendars or the tasks in your Google account.

Setting the default calendar

If you have multiple accounts connected to Alexa, you need to set which account’s calendar will be used as default when creating events via voice commands. For example, I have both iCloud and Google Calendars connected.

Notifications

You can enable or disable notifications for each connected calendar. If you have multiple Alexa-enabled devices, you can set which device is used to announce calendar notifications.

Finally, you can set Do Not Disturb period, which by default is from 10:00pm to 7:00am.

Conclusion

Trust me, enabling calendar in Alexa is one of the best things you could do. You will be checking calendar in your phone or computer far less often and of course you won’t miss your next event.

Oh and yes. You can always ask “Alexa, what did I miss”?
